Rainy Days

Somehow i managed NOT to get wet over the last couple of days.
Hardly earth shattering news i hear you say, but actually it is.
:D
It has been typically april .
Beautiful sunny skies one minute then pouring rain the next [ repeat at intermittent intervals ]

And what has this to do with anything?

Well, not content with scooting round the country last week [ a funeral in Yorkshire on Monday then a work related event in Leicestershire on Thursday and Friday ] I dragged D off to see Jose Gonzalez at the Shepherds Bush Empire last night.

Which meant staying over at the
Hilton Kensington.

OK, it didn't ABSOLUTELY need that to happen.
We could have got the train home.
But that always means rushing because the last train from Victoria is before midnight.
So staying over seemed like a far better idea :D

As indeed it turned out to be.

By the way, if you have to stay there I can certainly give it a thumbs up on most things.
The bed was massive and comfortable, and the air -con worked [ not always as much as a given as you'd think ].
There was loads of room to hang your stuff, should you have taken any [ unlike me ].
A decent iron [ see point above ]
And they have Douwe Egberts as their instant coffee.
Oh, and very pleasant reception and door staff, plus the offer of 2 free glasses of wine to trial when we stopped off back at about 6pm.

The only 2 small points against were the Stella Artois at £4.30 a pint in the bar [ i think ... it wasn't my round ] and housekeeping checking if the room was free at 8.30 in the morning!!!!
I mean, high beer prices I can accept, but being woken at 8.30 on a saturday morning when check out is at 12.00!?!?!

However, I'd certainly go back there again.

Jose Gonzalez was ok too, though lacking in something that i can't put my finger on.
Technically and musically it was excellent.
But.....
But what?
The nearest I can get is to say it lacked, well ... atmosphere or soul?
Something like that.
Hell, I'm no critic and his music is hardly upbeat, and i think that the fact that I enjoyed the performance should be enough, so i'm going to leave it there.

Nothing at all was lacking from my long delayed re-visitation of Bodeans.
Every sticky fingered mouthful was totally delicious, and left me all round bellied and replete.

The same can be said for breakfast at the S & M cafe too.
Wonderfully soft poached eggs, fat buttered toast and crispy bacon, plus lovely, lovely PG tips.
Plus one of those ' He looks familiar but I can't quite put a name to him' moments about a rather attractive english actor [ i think ] who was also breakfasting there.
What more can a girl want for breakfast?
*answers on a postcard please*
:D

Seriously though, it's been far too long since I got to do that kind of stuff , and i need to do it far more often.

Random stuff

Oh life is good!
The sun is warm,
The cherry blossom is painting the grass,
The bluebells are awash under the woods,
I have new specs,
Yay...did you hear that...NEW SPECS!!!! :D
[ I luuuuurve them glasses ]
[ I'll take some photos when I get them, but they are Lulu Guiness, black cats eyes with little white scrolls on the temporal edge and 'be a glamour girl' in twirly white script down the side, and I'm excited about them, ok ]
:D
Ahem, back to happy, happy things....
I had SUCH a great time last night, and I'm still awestruck by just how great Ocean sounded live.
[ I went to see the John Butler Trio at the Roundhouse ]
I think Matt may be back in Sevenoaks, so i may be able to get the Lilies on my back slightly more defined,
I tried the new Mars Planets, and they are totally scrummy *drools*
And I'm giggling over the poodle sheep scam.
:D :D
But I want to see the photos!
I mean....exactly how CLOSE did they look once they were clipped?

NIN

The gig was fun.
I : Had to pick the tickets up from the box office at 5pm and was amazed to see queues already when i went to get them.
: Got mixed up in the PSV Eindhoven???? [ is that how you spell it? ] crowd on their way to Arsenal, but on the whole they were happy, if a bit earshatteringly loud.
: Was gobsmacked by the sight of a girl in 4 inch heels and on crutches at the gig.
: Bought a tshirt *heart*
: Nearly lost my phone as I was taking the 2nd pic up there ^^^^ because someone bashed me and it did a very neat swan dive over 3 rows of people.
Only the fact that it was set to camera and the screen was still alive let me find it.

And yet more Woooooooo :D

Partly because the NIN gig is going ahead on Wednesday.
But mainly because I've just got tickets tor the John Butler Trio at the Roundhouse in April.
*bounces madly*
:D :D :D

Its NEARLY enough to make up for the fact that Ben Gibbard solo tour is in the US only.
Nearly.

Wow!

Jools Holland was fun.
:D

But Solomon Burke was bloody AMAZING!!!!!!!!

They rolled him on stage on a throne, suited and in sunglasses, but when he sang, OMG, such an amazing voice.
*heart*

It was the first time I've been to the Albert Hall, and while everyone else was really happy to be sitting at the front of the upper circle, i was just sitting there thinking 'Oh Oh....this is a very small wall infront of me and a very long drop down'
:S
I don't like edges at all.
*eek*

But when Solomon Burke came on I totally forgot about the edge thing.
Marc Almond was guesting too and I was suprised that his voice was so strong.
I'm not sure why i thought it had been digitaly enhanced, but somehow i didn't expect it to be as good as it was.
Ruby turner was ok.
I was a little dissapointed with Sam Browne, although that may have been due to distortion, and Jools Holland was doing his normal showmanship stuff but the supporting band were great, and since i have a real soft spot for Honky Tonk I was happy.

Getting home could have been a tad tricky with 2 jumpers on the line and engineering works meaning that we nearly had to get a bus back to victoria, but we managed to grab a cab with an unknown shopper and get home at a reasonable hour.

Dave [bless him] was waiting with chilled white, but i just crashed totally so the wine will have to wait till tuesday night.

music to cut your throat to.

bloody hell i listen to a lot of rubbish when i feel down.
:D
Well....not rubbish exactly, but jesus......
Don't know what I mean?
Well, get a load of this lot.

Run to him - Bobby Vee
I don't wanna talk about it - Indigo Girls
You can't always get what you want - the Rolling Stones
Would I lie to you - Eurythmics
Queen bitch - Bowie
Who wants to live forever - Queen
Hoy es adios - Santana
Sunny - Bobby Hebb
Sorrow - The Merseys.

I could go on forever
I own such a collection of music to slit your wrists to.
:D
Heh.......
Trouble is I listen to a couple and the I get all 'what the hell are they going on about' and start closing them as they start and going on to the next track.
I guess I'm just not built for wallowing in self pity.
Well.....
Not much....
;D
